Erlinda Sotto SEASON TWO/EPISODE TWO: This was a good match with the three players, Erlinda Sotto, Brian Soper, and Hollywood Dave, finishing in the top spots. As it often does, it came down to cards in the end—but rather than it being about who got them, it was more about who didn't. After hand 25, Erlinda had a big lead. Hollywood and Brian knew enough to come after her, but the boys lost all five hands they played from 26 to 28, and Erlinda was able to cruise to victory without risking more than $10,000. That made it two straight tournament wins for Erlinda Sotto, one of them a UBT title. Congratulations also to Brian Soper, who logged the highest finish by an Internet qualifier in UBT history.

WINNER: Erlinda Sotto

Her second straight tournament win. Incredible!

PLAYERS:

The players are Ahmet Akdeniz, Michael Toomey, "Hollywood" Dave Stann, Matti Shuale, John Smith, Brian Soper, and Erlinda Sotto.

The UBT Barona Open had a big field, meaning these players had to win several rounds to get to this final. The marquee name is Hollywood Dave, a UBT champion and top tournament talent, but there are two others with good credentials: Erlinda Sotto, who was coming off a recent big-field tournament win at Barona, and Brian Soper. Brian was this tournament's Internet qualifier, but unlike many of his predecessors, he'd had a lot of online practice and success; those in the audience who knew him were picking Brian as a dark horse to win.

ELIMINATION:
Hand 8: As the second-low bankroll, Michael Toomey is matched in turn by the players betting after him (see "Strategy Notes"). When an all-in bet from the low bankroll wins, Michael has no way out and is the first eliminated.

Hand 13: Beginning with hand 10, Matti Shuale hits one of those streaks that there's no escaping from, and after four consecutive losses, is out before the second Elimination Hand.

Hand 16: Ahmet Akdeniz is second low and makes a near all-in bet. He's forced to stand stiff and the dealer has a hard 15, but when she pulls a deuce, it's kismet for Ahmet.

Hand 25: This was a bad tournament to be second low on an Elimination Hand. This time it's John Smith who can't fend off the low bankroll. Hollywood Dave wins an all-in bet and John doesn't bet enough to cover him. He's eliminated in fourth place.

Hand 27: Hollywood's reprieve was short-lived. After surrendering a big bet on hand 26 (see "Strategy Notes"), he's essentially all in here and busts against the dealer's ace. Say good-bye to Hollywood.

Last Hand
As alluded to earlier, the best parts of this match played out before hand 25. From 25 on, Erlinda Sotto had the luxury of watching her pursuers go down on each shot they took. With $170,500 to Brian Soper's $78,000 on hand 28, Erlinda bet only $10,000 and had Brian covered even if he won his all-in bet and she lost. Brian lost the hand and Erlinda was the champion.
